My last couple of days...

Hey everyone, sorry it's been a while. Something I did that's kind've big is that Kimber and I re-arranged our room! haha Yes, already. She wasn't here when we first set it up, and so this let her have more input. It's WAY more open and productive. I'll try to get pics up somehoe. Tuesday I started my first History, math, and psychology class. History started a little late. My teacher is old and weirdish, but he tries to make jokes, haha. He has a real intensive syllabus and it is going to be ALOT of reading. I hope I can keep up. Then there was the ever dreaded math class. It was my first REAL class that wasn't just intro stuff, going over the syllabus, so it was my first note taking class. I felt pretty good throughout the class even though its intimidating. I have a girl in the class thats my friend's roommate, so we're sticking it out together. I had a break between that and psychology. I cleaned up and stuff like that. Turns out there are TONS of people I know in psychology. So thats real fun. My professor plays a song at the beginning of class and it was Guns-and-Roses, Sweet Child o' Mine. It was so fun. Then we just went over his introduction, questions, the syllabus. I am SOOO excited. Dr. Beck is a great professor, so funny, which is important when I'd rather be napping mid-afternoon. haha. That night I THINK I ate with Kimber at the Bean. It's kind've a blur. That night I had my first bunch of homework. I believe this is also the night that I got Kimber to do my Hip Hop Abs with me! haha It was so awesome!

Wednesday...um...Went back to English. I really like my professor. We will be doing journals which is always good to express thoughts. It was cool cause we talked alot about rhetoric, and since I took a class on it, I knew alot and felt smart enough to be in college. Then I went back to Math. We went over some new concepts and were told to finish our 10 problems for a quiz tomorrow. BLUH. I had chapel which I haven't mentioned yet. I have chapel every day at 11:00. I really enjoy the singing and so far the speakers or guests have been great. We always get junky seats though where it takes FOREVER to get out and to lunch. The Bean hasn't been bad so far. I like it! Wednesday I left and came back to do some reading for history class. I went to U100 a little early so I could get a drink. It's in this room next to Java City so its conveinent. I also was able to get a chair with table this time. We had some REAL interesting discussion. I'm not sure how I feel about some of what was said...it was weird and some of it threw me off. I can't remember all what was said though. I will have to remember and share so I can get some other opinion's. I left from their a little late and had to RUSH to Bible, but I made it in time. There were some guys that transfered in there that sat in front of me and they were neat. We had some REAL interesting discussion about who is Jesus. If we had 5-7 words to tell someone who knew nothing of Him, what would we say. Then we were given specific situations and the same limit of words, but what we said changed according to the situation. I worked with those two new guys. We are an official group for the whole year. After some short lecture and discussion, we had this challenge. We were given 20 qoutes or topics found within the four gospels and we had to figure out where they were. First we had no help, then we got our Bibles. It was hard and interesting. We did real good, 2nd place! I left Bible done for the day. I came back and did some cleaning, school, ect. Then I left with Amanda, Riane, Madelyn, Andy, and Dave (who I met at lunch), and we all went to Southern Hills for church. They served free burgers before church. I really enjoyed the service. I also saw alot of people I knew. We left, went to sonic, and then I just came up to my room. I did alot of math work, some organizing, and some reading. During the day I had come up with an idea for Freshman Follies show and so I started writing it out. I ended up writing some lyrics for my idea. I talked to the girl in charge and she took it to the other girl for them to read. OMG they LOVED it and thought it was SO funny! So now I am helping them alot and writing the rest of the lyrics to our show and lots of the choreography and I'm so glad. Now I know it won't be lame. Dad...tomorrow I will call and tell you more details, but not too many cause I want it to be a surprise. I then hit the sack after talking to Keith.

Thursday: Started early with history class. I almost didn't make it!! At about 7:40 Kimber said, Sarah don't you have an 8:00. I FREAKED. I got up, put on clothes and took off. (yes mom, I brushed my teeth) But anyway, class was alright. It was FOREVER long it seemed. He did alot of introduction which was boring, but once he started to actually lecture about our real topic I liked it. I've got ALOT of reading for that class, but the books been pretty interesting so far. I've got until the 13th until there will be a quiz over that book, but I got a study sheet. American History II is more interesting to me than earlier years, I guess I feel more connected to it? After that I went right to math. We took our first quiz...I felt ok about it. Then we went into a short lecture, followed by working out some problems. I didn't do the BEST onthe quiz, which stunk cause it was my first college quiz, but I knew the formulas...I just had some silly mistakes. So I will be better about not rushing and checking my work. (yeah yeah mom, I hear ya! haha) After class I dropped my books by the room, then went to the student center to check my mail before Chapel. I almost didn't find my friends, but then did. We move everyday where we sit. Hopefully, eventually we will be able to sit lower where people don't talk and we can leave easier. Again, the Bean followed. I pizza and a salad. I try to eat a salad with every meal, but recently they havent had the boiled eggs out there, and that makes me sad. I left lunch, came back and did some things I needed to complete. Just e-mails, banking, mail, ect. Then I had psychology, my favorite class. It was so great! We had a great lecture and some real interesting clips we watched over people watching. It is so interesting to me!!! I came back to my room, worked out, and showered. It was a little awkward cause Kimber was in here and didn't want to do it, but she didn't watch ahahaha. Shortly after that, we had this welcome to Abilene thing. They had local restaurants, churches, and companies there with information. There was "food" but in REAL small amounts. I barely ate. I got alot of coupons though so yeah. I also got a T-shirt, flip flops, and stuff. There was a huge raffle thing, but of course like always I didn't win. Shades, the Step Group performed. The reason I stayed so long was the concert. A band I really love, Homer Hiccolm and the Rocket Boys, came to play for us! Not alot of people knew them, so I cheered load of course! I met the lead vocals and guitar, and bass guitarist...yeah I'm cool like that. My group made it a big deal, but I was like, guys they're just here hanging out over there and they're normal like me...I'll be back. They were real nice and talked with me a while. They're coming back in a month, so I'm excited. When we left there, Madelyn and I were starving. We went to Rosa's with my gift card for a small meal, the rest of them went running. It was real cool cause Madelyn and I hadn't had anytime just us, and I really enjoyed getting to know her better and talk like we did. I feel way more confident in my friendship status with them. It was good. Then we went back to Mabee to play Apples to Apples until curfew. It was fun. I came back, cleaned up, and read until Keith called. Kimber and I did get to have a short talk about some stuff and it was neat to be able to be so open and honest with eachother like a good friend would be. Then Ihit the sack. I had some weird dreams though!

Today: Again, I woke up about 20 minutes before class started and need 8-10 minutes to get there. haha I had woken up earlier, but couldn't last. For the first time I went to class in exercise capris and a T-shirt. I almost made it a whole week haha. So I was real tired in class, but made it through. It was english my only class for the day. We had a great discussion about seeing both sides of an issue and how that can help your writing. We had to write in our journals freestyle and we did an in class assignment that was fun. I guess we will see how my teacher feels about that. After class...I came back to my room...and SLEPT! Well, I tried to...but I texted my mom, dad, and then Keith, and ended up texting alot. haha Keith and I talked alot so I would doze off then a few minutes later get startled to death by phone vibrating, but it was worth it. I left in time for chapel, Kimber and I walked together. I met up with my group in front of Moody. We got better seats! Today we had no speaker, just alot of worship. It was good. I had chicken in this sauce and this YUMMY rice and broccoli for lunch with a side salad...OMG was that chicken and rice YUMMy! mmhmm. After lunch I came back still exhausted. I laid in bed doing my history reading. Of course I fell asleep, but I set my alarm so I could still wake up after a short while to be more productive. I went out with Riane, Madelyn, and Amanda to go dress shopping. We all got country dresses cause we are going to this dance hall tonight. It's a country two-step place. I am ready and now waiting on the other girls. I'm nervous and worried, cause this is not exactly my scene, but if we end up bored and its lame...we will just go somewhere else. The guys, Andy, Jordan, and Dave are going too. It should be interesting. I will let yall know how it goes. For now...I am off. I don't have much planned for tomorrow except going to Wal-mart, the post office, and who knows. Love you all and miss you!

Well I survived

Well, I've made it through all my classes my first day. I had four. I got up at 7:00 AM to clean-up and leave in time to find my first class at 8:00.

It started with English. My teacher looked REALLY young. However, he said he's been here, I believe in Abilene, for 27 years, so I guess he's older than he looked. We just went over who he is and then we went over who we are. We said our name, major, and why we chose ACU. Then we went over the syllabus. We will be writing four major papers and be keeping a journal. I really like my professor and it sounds like I really like the way he is headed. It only lasted about 35 minutes.

I left there and came back to my room for a little bit. I unloaded some books and then took off to Math. BLUH! If you don't know already I HATE math and it is my weakest subject. My teacher seems nice though. I met a friend of mine's roommate and she was cool. There were also some other people I knew in there. So hopefully we can all work through it together. We just spent 30 minutes going over the syllabus and stuff to know.

I went strait from there to opening chapel and sat with my gang. It's grown and its fun. They had all these flag presentations, band playing, people introductions, blah blah boring haha. But after we all went to eat at the Bean. We had about 12 people trying to fit in a space for 8 haha. INTERESTING!

After that I came back to my room to sleep for an hour. If a girl from my U100 hadn't called me to ask where we were meeting...I would've probably slept through it haha. But I made it just 2 minutes late and they hadn't started. We meet in the conference room at the coffee shop so its cool. This class was giving information, meeting some new people to our group, and talking about the expectations that we and our teacher had for our class. It's going to be an amazing class with great discussion. We will end up so close together as our family away from home, closer to God, and hopefully conquer world and social issues we have or will. We ran a little late so I had few minutes to RUSH across the entire campus to my Bible class.

I got there 3 minutes late but it was all good. This class is 1 hr and 20 minutes, yikes. but it went ok. We talked about the syllabus, but first he told us alot about him. He told us the most important thing to know was this, his daughter is 16 months old and her name is Brynn Kyler (which I love that name) and his wifes name is Anne. So it was neat. We then went over the syllabus and policies. After that we took role call and shared a little bit about ourselves. Then real quick he threw out the question, What was so great about Jesus that he recieved so much attention positive or negative. It got PRETTY interesting. So yeah that was good.

I came back to my room and Kimber was here. We're just chilling and about to go to dinner. Tonight Kate is coming over to watch our TV show Greek and its a blast. So I will talk to you all later! I'm going to go eat now. Love you all and love hearing from you!

So it begins...

Hey! Ok so alot has happened and I will try to sum it up. Sorry I haven't written every day like I mean to. I will just touch on the big stuff cause its late and I'm trying to go to bed early. I have 8:00's every day! woohoo right?!? haha.

Ok some major highlights....
Friday we went out to the Lake. It was SOOO much fun. It was with my U100 group. We have AWESOME peer leaders who are so great and I feel so comfortable with. We went out on two boats with tubes and knee boards and what not. It was nice. I got a little toasty, but its tanning out nicely! haha.

My first nice of 1:00 curfew we were going to play ultimate frisbee, but there were only 6 of us...not enough! haha So we played this game Apples to Apples which is HILARIOUS and it was real fun. I met three new guys and they are pretty cool. We went to WHATABURGER around 10:45. I got a shake which was yummy. Then we went back and played more Apples to Apples in Mabee lobby. I left there around 12:50 making it back in time for curfew. I walked into my room, flipped on the lights, started just setting stuff down, doing whatev. All of a sudden I turned and saw a bump in my roommates mattress!!!! YIKES! I jumped at the lightswitch and started to function much quieter! haha. It was interesting!

Last night...I went out to eat with my group. I got a good amount of mexican food and lemonade for $4.00. It rocked! haha We left there for the Freshman Talent Show. It was definately entertainging, but there was little talent haha. SOME were good, some was SCARY! haha. After that a group of us decided to play Hide and Seek on campus. Four of us girls got all ready with our glow and the dark tattoos...but then there wasn't enough people to play again. SO....We got this awesome idea! We got charcoal, marshmellows, graham crackers, and chocolate, went to the front of Nelson, and had S'mores. haha It was awesome. We sat out there for about 2 hours talking. It was great. I left there about 11:30 to come to my room. I cleaned up and went to bed fast.

This morning I failed waking up to go to church due to my alarm clock's snooze failing me. I was SOOOO sad! But I did make it to Hope tonight, which is a great little church I really enjoy. I went with Kate and Justin. Carrie and another girl showed up too. Afterwards, Kate had to take off, but I stayed with the others to eat there. They serve a free meal for the whole congregation, its awesome! We had chopped beef burgers and ice cream. It was great! Then we went and saw Justin's and Spencer's house. They had a pretty nice set up! Then Carrie brought me back to my room. I have spent the evening cleaning, organizing, and getting ready.

Tomorrow classes start. I have 8:00's every morning! Tomorrow I start with English. I have a short break before Math. Math is apparently only going to be 15 minutes, to release early for something special in Moody. Then I have chapel at 11. U100 at 2:00, and Bible at 3:00. So its a pretty full day. I will write tomorrow after Bible. Hope you guys are all doing awesome! Miss you all! Much love!

Bright and Early

So this morning started at 6:15 when my roommate woke me up saying she was off to the sun rise devo at 6:30. I freaked out and meant to have been up way earlier! I brushed my teeth, washed my face, put on pants, and left. I was a liiiitttllleee late, but it was all good. We sang and then a Bible professor spoke. He was real funny and had a great point. The theme of the week has been "Real Life" and he encouraged us to live the real life consistantly. He said that there, in situations like that devo, WAS THE REAL LIFE, and we need to take that out into the world. It was awesome. We sat out on the steps of the Bible building with the sun rising behind him and a nice breeze and doughnuts! What could go wrong? haha.

I came back to my room, straightened up, did my blog from the past few days, ran to the post office, etc. Then at 11:00 I had Moody Morning. We had another Alum speak to us. He is considered one of the brightest minds working with youth of America. He gave us five points using brainwashing/memorization techniques using each of our five fingers to help us stay strong in College.
1-God comes first (thumbs up)
2-Run away from sin ect. (pointer finger running away)
3-Surround yourself with good people (middle finger, yes we were nervous)
4-Remember your committments (ring finger)
5-You're a winner (pinkie)
He was great and real funny.

We left from there to have group time and eat lunch. We had sack lunches with sandwhiches and oreos. They were just meat and bread, but good considering. We left from there to do our service project. Our group went to the "other side of the tracks". It's the roughest part of Abilene. We did something called prayer walking. We went up to peoples doors asking if they had any prayer requests or needed help around their house, and picked up trash. We sadly didn't have barly ANYONE answer doors. One 10 yr old boy came out saying that he wanted to help, that he helped every year. It was cool. The few people we did meet were fun. And we just had a good time together. I came back and SHOWERED because the majority of what I picked up was liqour bottles and beer bottles, and some still had contents so I smelt. I then had a LONG break and by long I mean less than 2 hours, which sounds long but wasn't enough. I did some computer stuff then watched tv and "rested my eyes". My sister called me about our evening plan, woke me up, I mean opened my eyes, and STARTLED me haha.

I got picked up by the Katie's her roommates, and we went to Timmy's house for the BBQ. Kate was late cause her brownies. So when I got there it was a little awkward, but I know alot of her friends so we chatted. It eventually got really relaxing and I loved it. I had normal conversations with them and felt alot better. I met two other freshman that were invited and they're on my floor and one has the same major. It was neat. We ate different meats and chilled. I loved it! Then I left with the truck and went on a shopping trip to Wal-mart for random stuff. I feel like I'm running out of my money pops gave me, but some of its stuff that will be for the whole year. I got my bike lock mom...smart me! Everything I got was necessary! And my roommate still owes me a lil bit so thats good too. We came back and have just been hanging out. She's talked on the phone, we've talked, talked to girls, just chilled. She's now decorating her laundry bag with fabric paint. She thinks I'm crazy for all my craft supplies but loves it. She thinks I'm so organized...hahaha Surprise surprise!

Anyway thats about it. I've really enjoyed my U100. Tomorrow will be amazing and I can't wait to write about it. I will talk to you all later. I love you all and love your comments! Mom, make sure dad sees these. I want to keep in touch with him. I guess I'll text him tomorrow cause I miss his craziness. Ok well...much love you guys!

It's All a Blur

So...by my title it's clear the past few days have kind've blended together. I am going to talk about highlights from the past two days. Hope fully tonight I will be able to write about what actually happened TODAY. Once school starts I won't have my entire day planned minute by minute for me packed with stuff, so it should be easier to do this daily. Thanks for all the comments on the last blog! It means alot to see you all care and are enjoying this!

Ok so Tuesday, my first day of Welcome Week. The Opening Ceremonies were chaotic. We are all split up into tons of different groups in Moody, so it was hard finding our way around. The groups become our U100 class. This class is basically to help us do the transformation from highschool to college. It creates a family for us here and we meet weekly for spiritual and life discussion. My peer leaders were dressed in China clothes and that has been our theme. We left and spent time getting to know our group and play games. I was a little less nervous after this because it seemed I saw some potential friendships. After that was the world's biggest game of Twister ever. It covers the entire basketball court made up of over 45 Twister mats. They did a variety of ways to play. Don't worry mom, I just watched. We had some free time before eating Fajitas with our mentor groups, that was fun cause we got to know eachother more. I sat and talked more with two girls and two guys that I really enjoyed and have continued to do so. My roommate had NEVER had fajitas! I KNOW...CRAZY! She's also never been to Chic-Fil-A and I intend to be at her induction to THE REAL WORLD haha. She is from Ohio by the way, hence no Chic-Fil-A or Tex-Mex haha. ANYWAY! After that the Candlelight Devo started. We all started in Moody worshiping and stuff. Then slowly they dismissed us by section. When we walk out of the building there were people made up of upper classmen and faculty holding candles (some lit, some not) singing along the edges of the sidewalk. I got to see Kate and many others I knew of her friends. The path led to an outside ampatheater (no idea on spelling, sorry mom) where we sat in darkness praising God. The candles started being lit on the edges and the idea is the flame passes down the rows...well its West Texas, so the wind made it difficult. I did have my lit quite a few times, once for a long period of time. I did singe some hair however, which smelt bad but thats ok. We had a speaker that was amazing encouraging us to step out and be a true light in the world, on campus, at our jobs, in the dorm, ect. From there we left for our dorms for a little while. I met some of Kimber's friends (my roommate) and they stayed for a while. At 11:30 we left for the Dorm meeting...lame...haha. I won't go into that it was boring rules. But I didn't get back to my room until 12:40...and it begins!

Wednesday I got up about 8:45 to work on my room and errands I had to do. I met Kate in the library for coffee and a muffin while we used the computers in there. We seperated and I headed to Moody Morning. Every morning we just meet and worship, then different things. Wednesday we had Bob Smiley, a Christian comedian come. He was SOOO funny! He graduated from ACU and met his wife here. I loved it! Following that, we all filtered to the Speacial Events center (location of Bible Bowl...scary memories) and ate lunch with the faculty. I met an older man and don't remember his name haha, but he wasn't in my dept. so it wasn't THAT bad! haha. They had several students and faculty there to inform us on the relationship between the two and it was very encouraging. It was a Blessing lunch, they all said part of a covenant, we said a part, it was neat. We were sent from there to meetings with our individual colleges within the University. I'm in the college of Arts and Sciences. It was informative, but WAY overdrawn...not fun. Right after that there was Bingo. I actually went to play and sat with a girl from my U100. They were giving away TONS of stuff to the winners...sadly I left empty handed. We had another group session where we spent time talking about what we wanted to do with our majors, our peer leaders shared stories, information, its just discussion time. We left to eat Chinese food (our theme) at our U100 Professors house. He is Dr. Bernard and is also my advise counselor who I enjoy very much. The food was amazing and my table of girls had a very theological discussion about the church and specifically Church of Christ. Yeah it was interesting. Following that we had a in-home church service/ discussion time which I really enjoyed. From there we all went to the Paramount theater which is a very old school place in downtown. It's like an opera house and part of the ceiling it supposed to be the sky and it has little twinkling stars...it was just neat. I sat with those two girls I reall ylike from U100. We watched Mighty Ducks 2 which really took us back. We were of course cheering, quacking, making it fun. Two guys we didn't know came up and met us and sat with us. They seemed sweet and fun. Then we left, stopped by Sonic, I hung out in their rooms for a bit then came back for curfew. Called Keith, hung out with Kimber, then SLEPT! YEY! haha. I got about 4 1/2-5 hours of sleep. I will talk about today later though. For now I shall go do Hip Hop Abs and shower!

I miss you all and hope you are doing well. Feel free to share this with whoever you think would enjoy it! Keep busy mom! I love you guys!

Feeling Freshman

Well, I am at college. I have almost fully moved in. I still have some shifting around and decorating to do. Yesterday was a free day because I already had completed orientation earlier in the summer. I worked on my room, ran some errands, had lunch with my sister, shopped at Wal-Mart (of course), then tanned in her backyard. After that she brought me back to my dorm. I went and had my first meal in the World Famous Bean, which is the ACU cafeteria. They were having a banquet for orientation kids, so staff and supplies were low, but it was still good. I have grilled chicken and race covered in brown gravy and a salad. I went right after tanning so I didn't look to hott, but who cares haha. I did meet some other freshman girls that were real nice. They aren't in my dorm though. I had to go through this line for welcome week registration and met a girl real close to me on my floor that seemed sweet, but I can't remember her name! haha, thank goodness for our nametags! haha. I got some free shirts there too! ANYWAY!
After that I came back to my room and did my amazing Hip Hop Abs workout video...my abs are sore and the burn feels good! Then I cleaned up and did more work on my room, hooking up my cable and stuff. I HAVE TV IN MY ROOM..CABLE! It's nice! Some channels aren't coming through, so I still have some work to do. Then my sister came and got me and since my cable was being lame, we went to her house to watch our show Greek. Then she brought me back. When we got to my room Kimberly my roommate had three girls in here, from Color Gaurd. They were nice and we hung out for a while. After they left we just chilled and made phone calls. We went to sleep after talking, but it took a while because our lame corner neighbor apparently sleeps with their lights on ALL night. BUT, we're getting curtains up today so that should be good.
Today I slept in finally for the first time till 9:45! I made my first smoothie in my lil smoothie maker and it was soooo good! Strawberry bannana! YUm! Kimberly and I tried to get the curtains up, but ran out of time before she had to go to practice. So I built our TV Table Rack...yeah not the most structurally sound piece or work, but it does its job! haha. A little after 1PM, she will come back to change and we will go get a bite to eat in the bean together, which should be nice. Then we officially start Welcome Week at 2pm! So I will write about that later! I will post some pics up of my room soon. For now...I miss you all and hope you aren't crying every minute without me. I know life without me in it is slightly less amusing and fun...but I shall visit and talk and make up for it! Much love!_SarahCorinne
