Ethnos

WOW! This was quite an experience! It has been a little while now since this event actually took place. It ruled my life for a lil over month, but it was worth it. This was a culture show at our school where TONS of different culture groups put on dances from different parts of the world. I was in the Swing Dancing group of 5 couples. It was an intense experience that taught me so much! I loved getting to meet all the different people! Backstage, at rehersals, in the waiting ballroom, it's like we all were automatically friends and loved being together. It was amazing!
The week of was MADNESS! My group had a practice Sunday and Monday night for 2 hours. That was pretty much what happened about 3-4 times a week for the past 4 1/2 weeks. Tuesday and Wednesday we had the major rehersals with ALL the different groups in Cullen. Those took forever! They started at 6 and the Tuesday night I got back at 12:30AM, Wednesday night I got back at 12:00AM! Curfew was excused cause it was an ACU event. Then Thursday was the dress rehersal. THAT was fun! We did the whole thing twice through. It went faster because everything was going at the real speed it would be and that was good. We had our hair all done like the 40's hairstyles. It was so cool.
THEN Friday came the big show! Because I only have my one class at 8:00AM on Friday...I was able to stress about the show all day haha. I had to start curling my hair and getting ready at 4:00. Kate was taking me to Cracker Barrel at 5:00 to celebrate before the big show. I was so excited because it had been a long time since we had gone there. I had to be at Cullen at 6:30 and I was anxious. Dinner was interesting. Our waiter was completely incompetent. I was shocked...he actually brought me Iced Tea with NOOOO ice in it. He totally messed up our very simple order...and TONS more. BUT my spirits were quickly lifted!!! I looked to my left, looked back at Kate, and then pulled a double take CAUSE I SAW MY MOM THERE!!!!!!! I was SO shocked! Her and my Gramma drove up JUST to see me in my show! It was so amazing! I was so nervous because they were there. But it went well. I also got to be in the opening scene for the Latin dancers. That was fun. We were part of the jamcircle and then there was this crazy awesome fight we got to be in. It was fun! The whole show went great! My biggest fear was the lift...it turned out GREAT! I landed it and everything! I was happy!
Saturday I went out to breakfast with my mom, gramma, and Kate. It was YUMMY! I had pancakes and sausage, it's been a while since I had that. Sadly, we didn't get to do much after that with our family. They had to head home. I honestly don't remember how I spent much of the afternoon. But I'm sure it was good. I had my second and last show that night. This was the night that all of my friends came. I hate to say I think it was a little better, it was FUN, but I wish my family could of seen it. We got pictures and everything before hand. And then we had the show and it was amazing. Again, I got the lift. The Latin dance and fight was WAY crazier! We added some more dancers so the jamcircle was better. Then, the fight was madness. The girl I fought with accidently fell down and it was CRAZY! I had so much fun! I chilled with my gals and then That night there was a major dance party in town...its a drug and alcohol free dance party that the Latin dancer guys put on. SO FUN! It was an amazing experience! I wish everyone could have seen it! I'm going to try to load the pics and videos! Love you guys!

I loved reading about your Ethnos weekend. The trip was well worth it! The look of surprise on your face when you realized that was me walking into Cracker Barrel was priceless!

I had been talking to Gramma on the phone earlier in the week. You had had a less than wonderful day so I was .. less than happy. Mama asked me if I wanted to drive up for your show - HA! It's only 6 hours one way - of course, I wanted to drive up! Since Daddy humors me and his baby girls, off I went with Gramma!

The fight after the Latin dance surprised me and was kind of funny since you had a smirk on your face the whole time! You did a great job on your dance but your fantastic 'lift' was done so quickly we didn't get a picture of it. I'll look forward to seeing the pictures you post of that.

I enjoyed hearing about your whole weekend. As a reminder, I think you actually went to the football game that Saturday after we left.

I'm not surprised to hear that you felt your last show was better. I think the kids get more comfortable and are able to have more fun and it just shows. Glad it worked that way for you.

Since Gramma and I drove the F150 up there that weekend and brought the F250 back for Big Daddy Goat Farmer Rick, I hope you've used it some. (The F250 mostly sits in the driveway until we can get it to the shop.) You need to do some driving to stay in practice and give Madelyn a break. Besides, surely arriving at Oplin in a truck is more appropriate than a car?!

Love you soo much!
